HARMFUL EFFECTS EXCESSIVE USE OF SMARTPHONE HAS ON OUR LIVES

I appreciate how much ease smartphones has brought into the world, in terms of sending and receiving text messages, share of memories between friends and families both far and near. But as many of us know, everything that has an advantage also has a disadvantage.

Recently, the way we use these smartphones and how we use them is becoming both harmful to both the society and ourselves.
It doesn't just affect our lifestyles, it also affects our health. Most times kids, and adults too, fiddle with their phones during the day, and at night. I won't exclude myself cause am one of those kids, but it has done me more harm than good. And I wouldn't want anyone else to be infected. So I'm going to list how smartphones can affect us negatively if we use it without moderation.

  • Psychologically

Constant use of smartphones can sometimes affect the way we relate with the people around us. Today I saw two people. A man and a lady. The man was talking to the lady and she was busy with her phone and nodding her head to make him feel she's listening. But I could sense his disappointment. He felt she didn't take him seriously, and had to stop talking. What I saw look like the photo above.
  •  Smartphone Use Weakens Your Inductive Reasoning

Today, it is incredibly convenient to just Google the things we don’t know and get the answer in just a click. But this over-reliance on Google and on the internet to solve our problems and questions backfires on us. We are truly dependent on what the Internet is giving us. Rather than reading about things and making conclusions analytically, we assume that the answers we gather from the internet are simply correct. And in some way, this makes us lazy.
  • Smartphone Use Can Cause Disruptive Sleeping Patterns

The blue light emitted from electronic devices disrupts our production of melatonin hormones. These hormones are the ones responsible for promoting sleep. This habit gives us less than normal time to sleep at night. And can affect the way we carry out activities the next day.

WAYS YOU CAN AVOID THESE HABITS
  • Participate more in outdoor activity. This will encourage your social interactions with your friends and colleagues. Which will also make positive impacts on your health.

  •  Instead of reading your favorite book on your phone, go to the library or bookstore, pick up the book and read. This reduces more strain on your eyes, and decreases the chances of having eye problems, compared to when you use you phone constantly to read these books.

  • Do you love to cook, bake, or paint? Whatever you love doing, it’s time to get back to your hobbies and spend some time on yourself.

This has helped me. And i hope it can help you too.
